wearable art
My wearable art pieces start with a concept sketch that is then developed using the metalsmithing technique known as fabrication.

Unlike casting where a mold is made of an original and caste multiple times, fabrication is the creation of one original piece by manipulating the metal through bending, heating, and soldering. The finished piece is truly one-of-a-kind.

The process usually starts with a sketch. Then the sections of raw material (silver sheet and wire) are cut with a hand saw. Then the design takes shape as the sections are soldered together, textured, and formed. The piece is then polished and the stones are set in place.

Each creation takes hours of labor intensive work and often times a piece will take on a life of its own at any point in the process. Listening to the silver "speak" often presents more interesting or profound design ideas than the original sketch.

I like to call these "Journey Pendants" as each one has a story of its own.

Some simpler designs like my "swirly" earrings and necklace can be reproduced, but are all created one at a time and therefore have slight variations making them similar but unique.
